Hi Friends! Today I’m going to share 10 different ways I display my indoor plants and how you can too. I live in a studio apartment, so these are small-space friendly.

As much as I love terra cotta pots, I like to get creative to make things a little more visually interesting. Continue on for indoor plant decoration ideas and be sure to watch the video I’ve included to see the ideas in my apartment!

1. Vanda Baskets

Vanda baskets allow for plenty of aeration to the roots, so they’re fantastic for epiphytes that are used to growing in loose bark high up on a tree trunk in the jungle.

I potted my crocodile fern in this vanda basket and I love the way it looks. I just laid some sphagnum moss around the root ball and put it in the basket—that’s it!

You don’t even have to hang the basket, it would look just as pretty on a table or plant stand. If you DO plan to hang it, make sure you have a really sturdy hook.

2. Tension Rods

I really wanted something above my kitchen sink. A small tension rod fit perfectly there and I can’t get enough of how pretty this Spanish moss is.

I added some mini macrame baskets and a sun catcher to make things more interesting.

Spanish moss, other air plants, or small vining plants would look so cute on a tension rod. Just keep the weight in mind and get a more heavy-duty rod if needed.

3. Terrariums

A terrarium is a great way to display almost any kind of plant that loves humidity. Terrariums don’t have to be complicated.

In the video, I show two examples—one is my more elaborate bird cage terrarium and one is made out of my broken plant mister and a small patch of sheet moss!

If you’re interested in terrariums check out my post on the best closed terrarium plants.

4. Unique Containers

Using fun pots and vases is probably the easiest way to spice up your indoor plant decoration.

Some examples I currently use include a wine glass and a little crystal vase for propagating cuttings, and various ceramic/glass pots from family members or secondhand stores.

5. Metal Photo Grids with Baskets

I originally had these photo-hanging metal grids and baskets in my Ikea greenhouse cabinet, but I’m not using them at the moment.

I’ve been thinking about what to do with them and I realized the grids could easily be hung on the wall with Command hooks, using the baskets to display small potted plants.

6. Macrame Baskets

You can buy a variety pack of macrame plant hangers or DIY your own. Depending on the size of the plant, you don’t even need to put a nail in the wall to hang it.

I have Spanish moss in the little basket I made and it’s hanging from a clear thumb tack. You could also use a Command hook for something stronger without damaging the wall.

By the way, I have so much Spanish moss because it’s usually sold in large quantities—at least, large for what you would expect if you just ordered one “plant’s worth” of Spanish moss.

As you can see, there are so many ways to get creative with displaying it so I really had fun with the amount of it I got!

7. Art Display Easels

I had this small art easel laying around and decided to use it to display the growing vines of my philodendron micans. Eventually, I’ll need something larger, but I thought this was really cute for now.

8. Fun Plant Stands

There are so many everyday objects that can be used as plant stands. I got the little chair you see towards the end of the video at a local antique store. It’s the perfect throne for my pretty pink syngonium!

Here are some fun mini chairs available on Etsy.

9. Terra Cotta on Terra Cotta

Got a spare terra cotta pot? Flip it upside down. Boom—plant stand. OK, maybe this isn’t a life-changing idea but I needed a small stand for my red ripple peperomia and this did the trick!

You could use this idea on a table with a bunch of plants to play around with the different heights. Or, what if you got really creative with it and painted the pot or did some mosaics?

10. Have Fun with Random Objects

And finally—random objects! I got this little wooden birdhouse from the dollar store and decorated the roof, then stuck some leftover Spanish moss in it.

I guarantee you have at LEAST a few little tchotchkes around your home that would look great being decorated with plants. Depending on the object, you could use this idea for a variety of small houseplants.
