Syngoniums (also known as arrowhead plants) can be easily grown in water almost the same way as growing them in soil. Simply fill a jar of water and put a syngonium cutting in the water. Give it bright, indirect light and make sure to refill the water as it evaporates.
This is most commonly done with propagated cuttings and then growing the roots in water, rather than planting the entire syngonium in water.
In that case, you’d need to slowly transition the plant from soil to water over time so that new roots specifically adapted to water can grow.
Can an arrowhead plant grow in just water?
Yes. Over time, water roots will develop (different than soil roots!), enabling the syngonium to grow in water. They can remain in water and grow successfully, just know that they might not grow to be as large as they would in soil.
Can you propagate arrowhead plants in water?
Yes. You can propagate arrowhead plants very easily in water! Cut off a piece of an arrowhead plant below a node. Then, put it in a jar of water so the node is under the surface.
New roots will sprout from the node, eventually growing a new plant! Get more details and a video tutorial about how to propagate arrowhead plants.
