Kokedama is the Japanese art of growing plants out of a ball of soil covered with moss.

The word translates to "moss ball"!

Step 1

Remove the plant from its pot and get rid of the excess, loose soil around the rootball. Don't disturb the actual roots too much though!

Step 2

Lay out some sphagnum moss to cradle the rootball of your plant. Then, work up from there to cover the rootball in moss.

Step 3

Use string to secure the moss as you're building it up around your plant. Make it secure, but don't make it too tight!

Step 4

Continue to gently to mold a ball-like shape to form the Kokedama. Add more moss and string as needed until you're satisfied with the shape.
