How to Propagate Alocasia Corms

How to Propagate Alocasia Corms

Grow baby alocasias in just 5 quick steps!

Alocasias produce corms. You can snip those off and use them to grow new alocasias!

Corm are similar to bulbs. They can be found underground around the roots of the plant.

A mature alocasia will likely have at least a few corms. Find one and snip it away from the root it's attached to.

Step 1

Step 1

Peel off the protective, brown outer shell that's around the corm.

You might have to work at this for a little, but it will help the roots grow out of the corm more easily.

Step 2

Step 2

Put the base of the corm (the part that was attached to the root) in a small container of water.

Step 3

Step 3

A bottle cap, for example, works well for this. Leave the top out of the water.

Give the corm bright, indirect light and humidity. You can use a plastic bag over the top for humidity.

Step 4

Step 4

Refill the water as needed when it evaporates.

In a few weeks you'll see roots emerge from the bottom and an alocasia stem emerge from the top.

Step 5

Step 5

Once the plant is a few inches tall and has a leaf, you can plant it into a small pot.
