How to Propagate String of Turtles

Grow a new plant in 3 easy steps!

The string of turtles is a very easy plant to propagate. There are a couple of different methods you can use.

This method is the most straightforward. Let's get started!

Snip off a few healthy, mature string of turtles stands.

Pluck off a few of the leaves toward the base of each strand to expose some nodes. This is where new roots will sprout.

Step 1

Step 1

Prepare a small container of damp potting mix.

Stick the strands (the ends with the bare nodes) down into the potting mix. The nodes need to be in contact with the potting mix.

Step 2

Step 2

Place the cuttings in bright, indirect light.

Step 3

Step 3

Keep the potting mix damp as the roots develop.

Over the next few weeks, roots will develop and then you'll start to see new leaves growing.

Voila—you have a new string of turtles plant!

Now you can start caring for your turtles like a normal plant, which is a little different than propagating cuttings.
